Who wrote Eken Babu?

Novelist Sujan Dasgupta created the fictional detective character of Eken Babu. Dasgupta, an engineer by profession, first sketched the character in Manhatane Moonstone, in the early nineties. It was published in the popular children’s magazine Anandamela in 1991. He penned down several other tales of Eken Babu. Initially, the author wrote books for children. Later, he started writing for grownups and adults. Popular Books of Sujon Dasgupta are Housebote Nikhoj, Sotti Mitthar Golok Dhadha, Ei Boiyer Naam Anyo Molate, Asol Khunir Sondhane, Manhotone Manhunt, Manhatone Moonstone, Shantiniketone Oshanti, etc. 

However, the way the character is described in the novels is not the way it is depicted in the series. Some changes have been made.

Anirban Chakraborti has played the titular character. Shoumo Banerjee and Bubble are in the main roles. The first three seasons displayed a strong yet quirky bond between the trio. In season 4, Anuradha Mukherjee played the role of Eken Babu’s sister.

Eken Babu Season 1

Eken Babu, a government employee, is in Bangalore for official work. He stays there with Bapi and Pramatha at an apartment. His loving yet irritating character receives mixed reactions from his flatmates. They later became part of a police investigation as a dead body is found in their apartment. Eken Babu stepped in to solve the case in Bangalore in unexpected ways. 

Season 1 is based on the story Manhatane Moonstone. The difference is that instead of Manhattan, New York, the investigation is taking place in Bangalore, India.

Eken Babu Season 3 – Eken Babu O Dhaka Rahashya

In Season 3, Eken Babu crossed the borders to solve a murder mystery in Bangladesh. Most of the shooting was also done in Bangladesh. Eken Babu and his two friends, Bapi and Pramatha, came to Dhaka to attend the Dhaka Literary Fest. Their host, Mahmud, son of an affluent businessman, invites them to his home for a dinner party. That is where the trio gets embroiled in the murder mystery. One can also view the societal aspects of Bangladesh as part of the story.

Eken Babu Season 4 – Burman Barir Rahasya

Season 4 is set in Murshidabad, West Bengal. Eken Babu self-invites himself to Burman Badi. The mansion has historical connections with Alivardi Khan. The people in the Burman family are not on good terms. They all have a plan to seize the house. In between all this, one day, there is a mysterious death at Burman’s house. The family thinks it is a suicide, but Eken Babu has other thoughts. How will the quirky and hilarious investigator solve the mystery?
