Bengali channel Star Jalsha and Zee Bangla both aired a biopic show on Kadambini Ganguly, India’s first female practicing doctor. Both the shows revolved around her life and works. In Star Jalsha’s Prothoma Kadambini, Solanki Roy, and In Zee Bangla’s Kadambani serial Ushasi Ray played the titular role. Both the actresses, with their strong performances, kept the audiences glued to their tv screen.

Kadambini Ganguly story
Kadambini Ganguly was a pioneer in many fields. She was born in 1861 at Bhagalpur, Bihar. Her father, a school headmaster by profession, was a social reformer. Those days Indian societies were conservative and oppressive towards women. Education was not allowed for girls. Child marriage and Sati practice were prevalent in society.
Kadambini’s father discarded these regressive rules and always encouraged her education. She became one of the first graduate women in India. After graduation, Kadambini married her widower teacher, Dwarkanath Ganguly. He was a social reformer and dedicated his full life to woman’s emancipation. He encouraged Kadambini to pursue a medical degree. Kadambini put efforts to persuade Calcutta Medical College to open its doors to women. She was one of the first working women in the country who balanced her work and 8 children successfully.
Kadambini Zee Bangla Serial
This serial story starts with an already grown-up Kadambini, who is sad as her childhood friend has died due to a lack of medical help while giving birth to her daughter. Another scene shows that Dwarkanath Ganguly is visiting Bhagalpur, as he wants to persuade Kadambini’s father to get her admitted to his girl’s school in Kolkata.
The lead protagonist Bokul Katha’s fame, Ushasi Ray, did full justice to the role. Manoj Ojha donned the role of Dwarkanath Ganguly. Debdut Ghosh and Lopanudra Sinha played the role of Kamdambini’s parents.

Prothoma Kadambini Serial plot begins with a happy-go-lucky little girl Binny, unaware of the patriarchal ethos prevalent in society. Her parents have opposite views about how she should lead her life. While her mother is conservative, Her father opposes apathy toward women. He encourages her daughter to become independent. The lead actors of the serial are versing in Bangal Bhasa (Language), the dialect of Bangladeshi natives.
The lead protagonist, Solanki Roy, is already a popular name in the Bengali entertainment industry. The audience still remembers her character Mekhla, on mega-serial Ichche Nodee. Bokul Katha serial fame Honey Bafna played the role of Kadmbini’s husband. Bidipta Chakraborty and Animesh Bhaduri donned the character of Kadambini’s parents.
