Arunita Kanjilal, the 17-year-old melody queen from Bongaon, West Bengal, became the first runner-up in Indian Idol season 12. His good friend Pawandeep Rajan lifted the trophy.

The auditions for Indian Idol opened during the lockdown. On her parent’s insistence, she gave it a try. It was her dream to participate in the Indian Idol as it is a big platform for newcomers. She had mesmerized the judges with her melodious voice in the auditions.
For the first 3-4 episodes, she was very nervous due to the presence of celebrities. Arunita knew that it was a big responsibility to represent West Bengal, and she worked hard and practiced a lot to make her fans happy in the show.
In Indian Idol, she wooed the audience with her melodious and soul-touching voice. The humble and polite girl won the hearts with her simplicity. Fans have started comparing her with Shreya Ghoshal. She also impressed yesteryear melody queen Alka Yagnik and was her favorite contender for the title.
Her dream is to become a playback singer. Many celebrities visiting the show told her that she is fit for playback. That has boosted up her confidence.

The hosts and judges kept pulling their legs on the show. But Arunita has maintained that they are just good friends. She further added that in reality shows, a lot of things are done just for fun. She does not take these matters seriously.
Arunita Kanjilal walked away from the show with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh while the winner got Rs. 25 Lakhs.

Indian Idol was not the first reality show of Arunita. She was talented from childhood. She performed live at various events and won many local level singing competitions. At the age of 10, Arunita won the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa little champs Bengali, 2013. She also participated in the Hindi Sa Re Ga Ma Pa little champ season 5 in 2014 and became a finalist(ranked 4th). She won the performer of the series.
After the show, Arunita wanted to train herself more before heading for another competition.

Arunita’s musical training started at the age of 8. She has inherited the musical genes from her mother’s side. Her mother, Sharbani Kanjilal, was her first guru and inspiration. Currently, she is learning from his maternal uncle, who is a trained classical singer.
Her father, Avni Bhushan Kanjilal, is a retired school teacher. Recently his father mentioned in an interview that Arunita has started getting offers from the Bengali film industry. He also said that he is not bothered about the ranking. He is happy and satisfied that Arunita is singing well, and viewers appreciate her performances.
Arunita is passionate about music and likes to experiment with it. She wants to be involved in it, in every way, forever.
