For the West Bengal assembly election, both Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress had roped in Tollywood celebrities. The election result shows that Didi is the only Dada of West Bengal. The celebrity candidates of TMC have done well. The star candidates of BJP failed to fly high. Star actress Payel Sarkar, Srabanti, Koushani Mukherjee, Tanushree Chakraborty, Parno Mitra, Saayoni Ghosh, Sayantika failed to make an impact. The superstar Bengali actor Yash Dasgupta lost the Chanditala seat. Raj Chakraborty, Aditi Munshi, Kanchan Mullick, June Malliah, Lovely Maitra, Soham Chakraborty won in their constituencies.
The heartthrob of Tollywood was the first famous star to Join BJP. He became a household name in Bengal with the famous Star Jalsha Bengali serial Bojhena Se Bojhena. His Debut movie Gangster was a blockbuster. The actor has also worked in many Hindi serials and has a huge fan base among youngsters. He was the candidate of BJP from Chanditala in Hooghly district.

Srabanti started her career as a child artist. She went on to become the top actress of Tollywood. Srabanti has a huge fan following in rural Bengal. On a personal front, Srabanti got married at a very young age of 16. She has been through three failed marriages. The 33 years old actress is a doting mother of a teenaged son named Abhimanyu Chatterjee. Srabanti contested from the Behala West.

Renowned playback singer Babul Supriyo joined politics in 2014. The two-term MP from the Asansol constituency is also the Minister of State for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. He contested from Tollygunge, the center of the Bengali film industry.

For 90’s kids, who have grown up watching Anurag Basu’s serial Love Story, they surely remember the character of sweet college girl Shruti, played by Payel Sarkar. The actress got fame and recognition from this show. She has worked in many Hindi serials and Bengali movies.

Tanushree Chakraborty
Bengali film actress Tanushree is known for her impeccable acting skills. While joining BJP, she said that she believed in the ideology of the party. The actress is the celebrity candidate of BJP from Shyampur in Howrah district

Former Indian Cricketer Joined BJP just before the 2021 Assembly election. BJP has fielded him from his birthplace, Moyna, in Purba Medinipur. Mithun Chakraborty
While the whole nation was buzzing with the idea that Dada, Sourav Ganguly will become the face of BJP in the assembly election 2021. BJP roped in the other Dada or famously Known in Bengal as Mithun Da. Seventy years old Mithun is not new to politics. Before starting his film career, he was linked with the Naxalite movement. TMC nominated him for the upper house of Parliament in 2014. Mithun attended the Parliament for only three days during his stint. He resigned in 2016 after his name appeared in the Saradha scam.
Mithun has given many blockbusters in his long film career. Mithun has a massive fan base in rural Bengal. He is the only Bengali actor who received the tag of the star in Bollywood. Rupa Ganguly
Rupa Ganguly got public recognition with her portrayal of the character Draupadi in B.R. Chopra’s Mahabaharat(1988). The national award-winning actress joined BJP in 2015. She lost the 2016 Bengal assembly election and later inducted into the upper house of Parliament.
Koushik Roy
Koushik Roy is another famous name in the Bengali Telly industry. He has worked in the serials Bojhena Se Bojhena, Kusum Dola, Fagun Bou. His current project Khorkuto is quite popular among audiences.

Apart from the above list, prominent Bengali actors Soumili Ghosh Biswas, Rahul Chakraborty, Raj Mukherjee, Ashok Bhadra, Meenakshi Ghosh, Mallika Banerjee, Papiya Adhikari, Emila Bhattacharjee, Debashree Bhattacharya, Kanchana Moitra, Rupanjana Mitra, and Biswajit Ganguly, Moumita Gupta, Rupa Bhattacharya, and Arindam Haldar have joined BJP.
The Bengali actress gained public attention after being mired in controversy for her tweet insulting the Hindu Lord Shiva. In January 2021, an FIR was lodged against her. Mamata Banerjee supported her, and she joined her party. Saayoni lost the Asansol South constituency to BJP’s star candidate Agnimitra Paul.
