Burrabazar is divided into highly specialized sub-markets, according to the commodity it deals in – Dhotipatti, Fancypatti, Tulapatti, Chinipatti, etc. Further subdivisions are katra, chowk, or kothi. Each katra is known for a particular item. There are approximately 25 katras in Burrabazar. 

Raja Katra that originally belonged to the Maharaja of Bardhaman, is the wholesale market for grocery items. Most of the shops in the lane deal in spices.

Bagri market In Bara Bazar is famous for household items, gift items, and cosmetics items. It is on the opposite road of canning street. Canning Street, Old China Bazar Street, and Ezra Street of Burrabazar have many Wholesale shops for Cosmetics.

Cotton Street, Jamunalal Bajaj Street, and Hariram Goenka Street are popular spots for the cloth wholesale market in Bara Bazar. Nemani katra in the cotton street, Kesoram katra, Chetram katra in Jamunalal Bajaj Street near Burra Bazar Police Station, and Hariram Goenka Street is famous for sarees and Lehengas. Bastalla Street and Kalakar Street have a range of sarees and dress material shops stocking bright colors and embroidered fabrics and borders.

One can do the Bridal Shopping at Barabazar. From wedding cards to clothes, everything you will find in Burrabazar Wholesale market at a low price.

In Cotton street, you will get fancy bags, shoes, imitation jewelry, bangles, Latkan, bridal Chuda, earrings, etc. As there is no fixed price, so one has to bargain for the best rate.

In Burrabazar, the streets are loaded with stalls selling decorative items, souvenirs, and other sparkling items.

How to reach Kolkata Bara Bazar wholesale market

There is no parking facility available in Burrabazar. So, always prefer public transport or private taxis to reach Burrabazar. The place is well connected to the city, railway station, and airport.

By Metro

Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road is the nearest station which is about 1km from the market. One can easily take a walk through the crooked lanes or find a rickshaw at the station.

This area has good connectivity with trams and local buses.

By Train

From Howrah or Sealdah station, one can reach the market by bus and auto.
